Dear Parents/Guardians of Room.35,

We hope that everyone is well and safe.  Thank you for continuing to support your children during our current distance learning. Please continue to encourage your child to check Google Classroom daily, Monday to Friday and to attend all Zoom classes.

Please see letter regarding Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education sent this week from Mrs. Carter in the link below:

Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education

The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.

These lessons will be taught to Room.35 students online during the following week:

  • 4th Grade: week of May 26,

Tuesday,  26th May, 10 am : Figuring out Friendships

Thursday, 28th May, 10 am: Taking a Stand against Bullying

State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher by May 22.
Many schools teach this curriculum in the spring. Our current distance learning format requires us to be selective about what can be taught safely and effectively outside a classroom, so we will be teaching a subset of the lessons at most grade levels using online and independent activities (see above). Students whose families prefer to opt them out of the lessons will not participate in the activities based on these lessons; no alternative lessons will be provided. Links to the revised distance-learning curriculum, opt-out information, and parent resources, can be found at: https://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/HealthResources.

Thank you,

Mrs. Taha

Friday, 27th March, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians of Room.35,

We hope that you are staying safe and healthy. Thank you for supporting your child at home during this huge change.  Please check this section on my website, which will be updated weekly - Thursday/Friday.  Please also ask your child to check our Google Classroom daily Monday to Friday, where assignments and instructions will be posted for the class.  This week Room.35 had opportunities to join Zoom meetings.  These meetings are posted on Google Classroom.  Please ensure that your child joins these meetings, as these are an important part of your child's education.

Report cards for our second trimester were emailed to parents today.   Please praise your child for working well this trimester.  Review the standards for each subject carefully with your child and read my comments.  Improvements can always be made.  Practice for the different standards is available on Clever and with the work that was sent home with your child.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

Below is the information that was posted last week about distance learning.  Assignments are designed so that your child can work on them independently with some parental guidance.  Questions can always be asked on Google Classroom and I will support as much as possible online.

Thank you,

Mrs. Taha

Weekly assignments on Google Classroom

All students took home books required for this closure yesterday that they will be needing over this closure. Please view weekly assignments with your child on Google Classroom and ask your child to complete these in their books.  Every student has accessed Google Classroom.  If you or your child have questions, please send me a message on Google Classroom, and I will respond as soon as possible.  Additional resources for Math and ELA such as Dreambox or Newsela can be accessed via 'Clever'.

Distance Learning Environment

Below are some fairly simple tips and strategies that may help make this transition easier. As your family is trying to find a new normal during this very difficult time, here are suggestions to create a new “normal” around the home.

Whole child well-being (social-emotional)

At this time, parents should be focused on their child’s wellness rather than new academic skills. Students have a strong foundation of skills they have learned this year, and this time can be spent practicing those skills, reviewing skills they find more challenging, and building their confidence. For academics: the goal is to maintain the skills that they’ve learned so far.  Try to avoid adding undo stress to your child by increasing their workload.

Creating Routines

During school hours, children have predictable routines and schedules that provide students with a sense of structure and safety.  With the school closure, this routine is disrupted and we strongly suggest creating a routine at home. In any typical school day, students may work on different subjects like Math, English, Science, Social studies or History, Art, and PE.  When establishing a routine, aim for the least amount of stress for your child.  One suggestion might include creating breaks between academic blocks of time.  ‘Break’ activities could include taking a walk around the block, enjoying a snack, participating in mindfulness activities, gardening, playing games, etc. Create a routine that works well for you and your family, as every family is unique.

Dear Parents/Guardians of Room.35,

Our first priority as educators is to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for your child. Regrettably, due to the pandemic of COVID-19, the closure of the school was necessary.  We want to support you and your child with a transition to a distance learning environment.  Currently, I will be posting weekly assignments on Google Classroom.  Our upcoming field trip to San Juan is postponed and report cards will be given out once we return to school.  You can still email me opt-out requests regarding the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum which is due by April 1st, 2020.

Weekly assignments on Google Classroom

Most students took home books required for this closure yesterday that they will be needing over this closure.  If your child did not take all their books home, please School office tomorrow between 8.30am to 9.30am, where someone will take you to Room. 35 to collect your child's books. (Please check your email if your child is one of these students).
