Hello students and families! I'm glad you found my web page. Hopefully, you'll been checking back periodically. I try to keep the page updated monthly with test dates and important issues regarding your students. Please download the Remind app to get text reminders from me!

When sending emails, please allow 48 hours for a response. I am busy teaching throughout the day and sometimes go hours or the full day before checking my email. For example, if you have a student leaving early, sending me an email at 9am when they're leaving that day will not ensure that I get that email.

Also, please remember that emails sent over break/weekends/evenings will not be seen until the next school day.

Remind App

This app is designed to send out text reminders while keeping phone numbers private. I can send out reminders for field trips, picture days as well as test dates. See the web address to sign up below! This is a very important way for you to stay informed!!! I send out HW reminders weekly, if not daily. I also send reminders like "Don't forget to bring your Scholastic News Magazine tomorrow!" Please use the link below to stay informed!!! I do not send out who class emails!

Note: SignUp.com does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact me and I can sign you up manually.

Engrade Dates:

Because I wanted to ensure that everyone got their parent/teacher conference I chose to hold them one week early. This means that our class's gradebook closed for Trimester 1 on the 2nd instead of the 9th of November. Because of this, assignments that are turned in during the week of 11/5 with have to have altered dates. If you see an assignment with an asterisk (*) in the heading, this indicates that I had to change the date it was due in order to have it populate in trimester two. It will have actually been due one week prior. I apologize for any confusion this causes.

Macy's Make a Wish Campaign:

Every year Warm Springs participates in the Make a Wish letter writing campaign. Macy's donates $1 for every letter written to Santa to the Make a Wish foundation. Every year we have a competition to see whose class can write the most letters! Letters should be a short paragraph and they can be asking for gifts or wishes for yourself or friends/family. This year there is an online component! We will be writing letters in class but you can write them online as well!

Illnesses

Please use these guidelines when deciding to keep your student home. I know it's inconvenient to have a student home because of possible work conflicts but having a student sick at school puts other students at a high risk for becoming ill and missing school. Also, this puts their teachers at risk at well which could lead to more days with substitute teachers in the classroom.

When to Keep Student Home Any student exhibiting one or more of the following conditions/symptoms must be kept home from school. Unless otherwise noted, student may return to school the following day after it is determined to the satisfaction of District representatives that a contagious or infectious disease does not exist. (EC 48980, 49403 and 49451)

  • Temperature of 100° F or higher.  Student may return to school when he or she has been without a fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • Nasal discharge that cannot be controlled with tissue and proper hand washing.
  • Non-allergy related sore throat and/or persistent cough. Student may return to school when symptoms are resolved or medical provider documents that the student can return to school.
  • Continued symptoms within 24 hours of illness-related absence.
  • Vomiting or persistent nausea. Student may return 24 hours after vomiting has stopped or medical provider documents that the student can return to school.
  • Diarrhea. Student may return 24 hours after diarrhea has stopped or medical provider documents that the student can return to school.
  • Rash of unknown cause. Student may return when rash is gone or medical provider documents that rash is not contagious.
  • Lice. Students found with live lice should be sent home to start treatment as soon as possible to avoid the spread of lice. Students may return to school upon satisfactory treatment and after there are no visible lice upon reexamination. (AR 5141.33)
  • Suspected contagious condition (i.e., Impetigo, Ringworm, Scabies, Pink Eye, etc.). Student may return to school when condition has resolved or medical provider documents that the student can return to school.
  • Asthma symptoms not relieved with medication.
  • Allergic reaction. Student may return to school the next day if reaction has resolved.

If these symptoms are seen at school the student will be sent home.

Appointments/Conferences:

If you need to speak with me or set up a time to have a conference, please Email or call me first. This year I've had over 10 parents walk in to my room during the school day or show up unannounced at the end of the school day. I know this does not seem like that big of a deal and it isn't at other schools. However, it is the school policy and if other parents see that I welcome visitors at all times throughout the school day, without appointment I will literally have 20 parents waiting at the end/beginning of every school day. I know it seems silly but please just send me a quick email to let me know if you need to come by or have a conference. Thank you for your cooperation!

Homework Policy:

  • Language Arts and Math are assigned nightly and are due the following day. If students forget their HW it can be turned in the next day for 1/2 credit. If we do math on a Friday students will be allowed to complete the corresponding homework for extra credit.
  • Science will always be assigned on a specific date of the week (day TBA) and due the following week on that day. All Science assignments will come from the Study Guide booklet.
  • Social Studies will always be assigned and due once a week as well (day TBA). Pay close attention to the writing prompt. Sometimes it will be required and other times it will be counted for extra credit.
  • Reading logs are given on Mondays and need to be completed nightly, including a parent signature/initial and a summary of what they read. Students can turn these in Friday or on Monday if they choose to read over the weekend for extra points. Reading logs will be passed back at the beginning of the next month. (September logs will be sent back at the beginning of October.
  • Free choice spelling- students are responsible for 3 Free Choice activities due before the spelling test. We will be taking two weeks to cover each Treasures story because we're incorporating Core Ready. I will try and put any test dates in "important dates" ASAP and within a week's notice as well as send out a Remind notice through the Remind App.
  • No HW is ever assigned on the weekend. Students may choose to bring home incomplete classwork to finish but it is not a requirement.
  • Free Choice Spelling Directions

Classwork

Most classwork is assigned for "Workshop" (independent work time for students to work in leveled groups in centers). Because we are changing reading curriculum this year please stay tuned for more about "Work Shop".

Scholastic Book Orders

I delayed sending book orders home in order to support the book fair. If you would like to order from our book orders you can order in two ways:

  • Online using my class access code J2MLJ
  • Send a check with your students order. It does say on the book orders "no cash" but if cash is easiest for you, I can take cash and then order your order online using my credit/debit card as payment

All books ordered earn points that we can use to order books for the class!
